European Environment Agency "Use of Freshwater Resources" Indicator

The analysis of this indicator, issued by the European Environment Agency, shows that, although water is generally abundant in Europe, scarcity and droughts continue to affect some regions, especially those more densely populated and with large water needs for agriculture and tourism during the summer. The analysis includes an interactive map that allows exploring the changes, over time and in terms of river basin, water abstraction, by source, and water use, by sector. The water use index was calculated as the quaternary average by river basin, for the years 2002 to 2012.
